About Starfish Infant Aquatics
Hi, I’m Erin Loewe!
I love teaching kiddos how to swim and training new instructors for Infant Aquatics®! I originally certified with Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) in Florida in 2007, and since then, I have taught thousands of children how to swim and become aquatic problem solvers in Tallahassee, Nashville, and now Richmond, where I live with my husband, Karl, and two teenagers.
In Fall 2021, I expanded my skillset and traveled to Colorado for six weeks of intensive training with Judy Heumann, founder of Infant Aquatics®, to become an Infant Aquatics Certifying Instructor. I'm so excited about training new instructors and providing expanded survival swim offerings to even more kids in the near future.
This is the most rewarding career!
Being able to train both children and adults in the science of self-rescue swim lessons is so rewarding. Seeing the "aha" moments in the pool with both our swimmers and our training instructors never gets old. Beyond that, not a week goes by that we don't hear about families who have lost a child in an aquatic accident. It makes us both frustrated and hopeful that we can turn the tide on this, as drowning is preventable with the right layers of protection in place.
If barriers to the water and constant supervision break down, a child's final layer of protection is their skill level in the water!
Katie Jennings
Katie Jennings previously worked in Mechanicsville at an engineering company for 7 years. She and her husband have 5 children.
In the summer of 2020 at the age of 2, her daughter Nora made her way to her friend's unsupervised pool at a birthday party. She was pulled from the water and CPR continued until paramedics got her heartbeat back 12 minutes later. Nora then spent the next 17 days at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, with 5 of those days on life support in the PICU. She ended up making a full recovery.
After the accident, Katie learned about survival swimming and immediately called Infant Aquatics and enrolled her girls at Starfish Infant Aquatics with Erin. Since then, it has been her dream to become an instructor and make sure no family experiences what hers did.
Katie has been a water safety and drowning prevention advocate since the accident. Now, she is excited to help teach kids how to self rescue while working at Starfish Infant Aquatics!
Karl Loewe
Although he has been around self-rescue swim lessons since his children were very young, Karl has an extensive background in health insurance finance and operations. He decided to train with his wife, Erin, in early 2023 to be more hands-on in the family business and to help get even more kids swimming. Mr. Karl has many fans in the pool, where he brings his "fun dad" energy to lessons each day!
Looking to train as an Infant Aquatics® Instructor?
The number of qualified instructors available to teach self-rescue swimming skills is nowhere close to the demand that exists. As an Infant Aquatics® Certifying Instructor, Erin is happy to offer a comprehensive 6-week training in the Richmond, VA area so more people can bring these lessons into their communities.
